Ocular Migraine Headaches

Ocular Migraine Headaches are also called eye migraines, ophthalmic migraines and retinal migraines. They are usually harmless and go away by themselves after about 30 minutes. There are a variety of symptoms that can include blind spots, flashing lights and auras that may only affect one eye. Ocular or retinal migraines occur in the eye, so only affect the vision in that eye, while visual migraines take place in the brain, and affect the vision in both eyes together. Visual migraines result from cortical spreading depression and are also commonly termed scintillating scotoma.

Ocular Migraine Headaches usually require no treatment and are considered benign. If symptoms persist, see a doctor to determine if there may be other causes.
